Reading- We are on Unit 3, week 3. The story of the week is George Washington Visits. The question of the week is: How is life today different from life hundreds or years ago? The phonics skill is /d/ spelled Dd. The comprehension skill is cause and effect. Grammar skill is verbs that add -s. The amazing words for this story are: celebration, sprinted, barn, blacksmith, arch, soldier. The high-frequency words are: see, look.
Math- We will be wrapping up Unit 2: Numbers 11-20. The essential question of the week is: how do we read, write, and count numbers up to 20? Please work with your child on counting, identifying, representing, and writing numbers 11-20. In Spring Math, we are working on finding the missing number up to 10. You can help by working with your child on identifying and writing numbers up to 10, and counting forward and backward up to 10.
Writing- We are on Unit 4 of writing. We are still working on writing lowercase letters, but we are also  working on writing sentences and whole words. We are working on beginning sentences with a capital letter, ending with a period, and leaving spaces between words.

September 20th- a paid Spartan dress down day! If your child brings in $1.00, they may wear jeans and a Spartan t-shirt! Also, hearing screenings will be given this day.

Reminders:

Please send in your $3.00 for the Fall Festival as soon as possible! Thank you! Please continue helping your child with their sight words, writing their names (how to hold a pencil), and the alphabet. The more practice the better! I will begin testing sight words this week. Please continue to have your child read a book every night! They must read 15 books each month to earn a prize. Starting in October, Pizza Hut certificates will be given out each month to those students.

Math: This week in math we will be starting Unit 6- 2D shapes and 3D solids. Our essential question for this week is: How do we classify and sort objects? We will identify 2-dimensional shapes, including circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares.

Writing: We will begin lessons this week with learning proper pencil grip and starting our numbers/letters “at the top”. Our wooden pieces used to make numbers/letters will be introduced as well.

Social Studies: We will continue learning the SPARTY rules. Since our question of the week is about children working and playing together, will we be learning about how to work and play together.

The comprehension skill is character. The grammar skill is nouns. Our amazing words are: first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth. We are learning letters the following letters (capital and lowercase): Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd and Ee. The high-frequency words are: I, am.

Math: We are practicing listening for specific signals for when to start, stop, or change something that we are doing in class. Also, we are practicing our volume levels. Which volume level we should be using in different scenarios.
