Week of September 30th-October 4th

This week we had so much fun celebrating Johnny Appleseed's birthday! We did fun activities and even food tasting!

*Students must wear dress code if not participating in wearing a themed costume.

Reminders:
October PBIS calendar and reading logs will be in folders starting on the 1st. If your child reads 15 books the month of October, he or she will earn a Pizza Hut certificate.
Please make sure to send in $3.00 for the Fall Festival if you haven’t already.


What we are learning:
Reading: This week we are starting Unit 1, Week 5. The story of the week is Smash! Crash! The question of the week is: What do you like to do with your friends? The phonics skill is initial /m/ spelled Mm. The comprehension skill is character. Our amazing words are: signals, dud, proper, pirates, perfect, fabulous. The high-frequency words are: a, to.
Math: We are wrapping up Unit 6- 2D shapes and 3D solids. We will have our Unit 6 Assessment test at the end of the week.
Writing: We will begin Unit 2 of writing. We will continue to learn how to write uppercase letters and numbers 4-10.

Please continue to read 15 books a month with your child.Books logs are due on September 30th!

Please continue to practice sight words in your child’s folder. Once your child has mastered a list, you may move onto the next list. I have tested all students on list 1 this week!


What we are learning:


Reading: This week we are starting Unit 1, Week 4. The story of the week is Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip with Kindergarten. The question of the week is: How do people in a community cooperate? The phonics skill is initial sounds. The comprehension skill is sequence. Our amazing words are: bakery, fire station, park, post office, library, chaperone. We are learning letters the following letters (uppercase and lowercase):Tt, Uu, Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy, Zz. The high-frequency words are: the, little.

Math: We are on Unit 6- 2D shapes and 3D solids. Our essential question for this week is: How can knowing your shapes help you make new ones?

Writing: We will continue with learning how to write letters and numbers in our handwriting without tears books.

**This week we will be reading about Johnny Appleseed. On September 26th, it’s Johnny Appleseed’s birthday and we will be doing fun crafts and activities throughout the week!

Week of September 16th-20th

We are having SO much fun in Kindergarten! We are learning so much.

Thursday 9/19- Day 2- Art
Friday 9/20- Day 3- Library (please have your child bring their library book back)

Important Dates:
September 16th- Scholastic book orders are due.
September 20th- a paid Spartan dress down day! If your child brings in $1.00, they may wear jeans and a Spartan t-shirt! Also, hearing screenings will be given this day.

Reminders:

Please send in your $3.00 for the Fall Festival as soon as possible! Thank you! Please continue helping your child with their sight words, writing their names (how to hold a pencil), and the alphabet. The more practice the better! I will begin testing sight words this week. Please continue to have your child read a book every night! They must read 15 books each month to earn a prize. Starting in October, Pizza Hut certificates will be given out each month to those students.

Math: We are on Unit 6- 2D shapes and 3D solids. Our essential question for this week is: How do we describe 2D shapes in our world?

Writing: We will continue with learning how to write letters and numbers in our handwriting books.

Reading: This week we are starting Unit 1, Week 2. The story of the week is We Are So Proud. The question of the week is: How do school children work and play together? The phonics skill is syllables. The comprehension skill is setting. Our amazing words are: proud, preparation, cooperation, creation, float, guide. We are learning letters the following letters (uppercase and lowercase): Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn. The high-frequency words are: I, am.

Math: This week in math we will be starting Unit 6- 2D shapes and 3D solids. Our essential question for this week is: How do we classify and sort objects? We will identify 2-dimensional shapes, including circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares.

Writing: We will begin lessons this week with learning proper pencil grip and starting our numbers/letters “at the top”. Our wooden pieces used to make numbers/letters will be introduced as well.

Social Studies: We will continue learning the SPARTY rules. Since our question of the week is about children working and playing together, will we be learning about how to work and play together.

This week we will continue with the story of the week: The Little School Bus. The question of the week is: How do we live, work, and play together? The phonics skill is rhyming. The comprehension skill is character. The grammar skill is nouns. Our amazing words are: first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth. We are learning letters the following letters (capital and lowercase): Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd and Ee. The high-frequency words are: I, am. Please practice these skills with your child!

Math:
We will continue learning and practicing how to listen for signals, which volume level to use while working at centers, and rotating to centers.
