Week of September 16th-20th

We are having SO much fun in Kindergarten! We are learning so much.

Here are some updates for our classroom:

This Week's Specials:
Monday 9/16- Day 7-Computer
Tuesday 9/17- Day 8- Gym
Wednesday 9/18- Day 1- Music
Thursday 9/19- Day 2- Art
Friday 9/20- Day 3- Library (please have your child bring their library book back)

Important Dates:
September 16th- Scholastic book orders are due.
September 20th- a paid Spartan dress down day! If your child brings in $1.00, they may wear jeans and a Spartan t-shirt! Also, hearing screenings will be given this day.

Reminders:

Please send in your $3.00 for the Fall Festival as soon as possible! Thank you! Please continue helping your child with their sight words, writing their names (how to hold a pencil), and the alphabet. The more practice the better! I will begin testing sight words this week. Please continue to have your child read a book every night! They must read 15 books each month to earn a prize. Starting in October, Pizza Hut certificates will be given out each month to those students.

What we are learning:

Reading: This week we are starting Unit 1, Week 3. The story of the week is Plaidypus Lost. The question of the week is: How do families cooperate? The phonics skill is initial sounds. The comprehension skill is sequence. Our amazing words are: platypus, around, lost, found, market, groceries. We are learning letters the following letters (uppercase and lowercase): Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr, Ss. The high-frequency words are: the, little.

Math: We are on Unit 6- 2D shapes and 3D solids. Our essential question for this week is: How do we describe 2D shapes in our world?

Writing: We will continue with learning how to write letters and numbers in our handwriting books.
