Week of December 16th-20th

I will collect December books log when we come back to school after break. Please continue to read with your child every night and practice sight words!


What we are learning:
Reading- We are on Unit 3, week 3. The story of the week is George Washington Visits. The question of the week is: How is life today different from life hundreds or years ago? The phonics skill is /d/ spelled Dd. The comprehension skill is cause and effect. Grammar skill is verbs that add -s. The amazing words for this story are: celebration, sprinted, barn, blacksmith, arch, soldier. The high-frequency words are: see, look.
Math- We will be wrapping up Unit 2: Numbers 11-20. The essential question of the week is: how do we read, write, and count numbers up to 20? Please work with your child on counting, identifying, representing, and writing numbers 11-20. In Spring Math, we are working on finding the missing number up to 10. You can help by working with your child on identifying and writing numbers up to 10, and counting forward and backward up to 10.
Writing- We are on Unit 4 of writing. We are still working on writing lowercase letters, but we are also  working on writing sentences and whole words. We are working on beginning sentences with a capital letter, ending with a period, and leaving spaces between words.

Reminders:
Kindergarten field trip is on Friday. December 13th. Students may wear pajamas! No money is needed. If your child is packing a lunch, please pack it in something disposable.
Please continue to practice sight words.

The comprehension skill is plot. Grammar skill is verbs for now and the past. The amazing words for this story are: duckling, pond, paddle, plunged, proud, brave. The high-frequency words are: me, with, she.

Math- We are continuing with Unit 2: Numbers 11-20. The essential question of the week is: how do we read, write, and count numbers up to 20? Please work with your child on counting, identifying, representing, and writing numbers 11-20. In Spring Math, we are working on finding the missing number up to 10. You can help by working with your child on identifying and writing numbers up to 10, and counting forward and backward up to 10.

Week of December 2nd-6th

Reminders:
-November's book logs are due on 12/03. December's book logs and PBIS calendars will be in folders on 12/03.
-Since we are now in December, the weather will be getting colder. Please send your child to school with a winter coat, a hat, and gloves. We go outside for recess unless it is below 38 degrees or it is raining.
-Please continue to practice sight words with your child.
-Please work on counting to 100 with your child.
